The first branch relates how Pwyll, the prince of Dyfed, exchanges places for a year with Arawn, the governor of Annwn (in infamous), defeats to the enemy of Arawn (Hafgan), and in its return it is with Rhiannon, a beautiful maiden Whose horse can’t be reached. He obtains his hand and the expenses of Gwawl, with whom she is engaged and gives him a son, but the child immediately disappears after giving birth. Rhiannon is accused of having killed him and forced to carry the guests on her back as punishment. The child had been kidnapped by a monster. He is rescued by Teyrnon, and his wife educates him as his and calls him Gwri of Golden Hair, until his resemblance to Pwyll becomes apparent. They return it to their true parents, Rhiannon is exempt from its punishment and the child receives from then on the name of Pryderi.
